Ok so today I bought a netbook. To be specific it is the Acer Aspire One D250-1373 for $299 CDN. I bought it at Costco haha bcuz I will have 90 days to try it out and if I don't like I can refund no questions asked. I will be heading up to Whistler Mountian for work during the 2010 Olympics. Will be there for most of Feb. This lil netbook will be handy for me. Fits nicely in a small bag and can carry it around. I haven't installed any games on it yet. I will be installing Starcraft and diablo 2. Mostly I'll be working and in case I have nothing to do at night will have something to play. Right now just finished with windows update and uninstalling the crap pre-installed software trial stuff they stuck on here.. This thing is running on Windows XP. I find it to be fast and responsive so far. loading up 7zip, the O&O defraging 10 software and will be using Microsoft Security Essentials. There is no DVD/CD drive on this so I will be installing Daemon Tools Lite (a must have tool for me.) Firefox and my must have addons.
OK so no cd/dvd drive is a pain. First thing I noticed is having to make 3 recovery discs which requires an external DVD writer drive. I don't have this so I called up my uncle and borrowed his. So now I got the recovery discs. Woulda been nice if I was able to use a USB Flash Stick or external hard drive...
They keyboard is small and packed together. I can type fine but a lil slower than usual
Battery power: this laptop came with a 3 cell battery. They rated it for 3 hours? I think. Which I am a lil supprised. Well this netbook model is the oldest of the Aspire One, but with the size of this being 10.1" I expected it to out last a full sized laptop by more. I haven't tested out the battery yet.
I for sure will refund this thing in the end. Get a newer model but hey 3 months to use this so a new model will be out. If I do decide to keep a netbook I will be sure to pick one with a nice keyboard layout. (The ones like Sony's keyboard. Can type like normal and smoothly without my hand feeling all weird and have to adjust to this tiny keyboard.) Most likely will go with an Asus EEe PC with the nice long lasting battery.
