StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty achieves record-breaking sales!
After a hiatus of 12 years, the StarCraft series returned to the video game space only a week ago. It seems that the classic tale set in a distant location of the Milky Way Galaxy has spread its magic across the globe. Blizzard has recently announced that on the day of its release, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty acquired a sales mark of over 1 million copies worldwide.
The title landed simultaneously in numerous continents including North America, Europe, parts of Asia and Australia on July 27, 2010. Making its way onto racks of more than 8,000 stores, the game is said to have enticed hordes of fans and enthusiasts who signed up for the copies. It has been estimated that the title has raced past all previous benchmarks by marking a sales figure of more than 1.5 million copies within the first 48 hours.
“We launched StarCraft II in 11 different languages and on 5 different continents because we wanted to make sure as many players as possible were able to log on and play on day one,” remarked Mike Morhaime, CEO and Co-Founder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We’re pleased that so many people around the world have already picked up a copy of the game, and we look forward to welcoming even more players to
Battle.net in the weeks and months ahead.”
Taking off from the conclusion of the earlier installment, this new offering has been sculpted to incorporate vibrant 3D-graphics engine. This time around, the protoss, terrans, zerg are set to enter the battle field with veterans, upgraded and new unit types. Additionally to yield an enhanced experience, the title can be enjoyed by even engaging in online gameplay.
Battle.net has crafted the fresh new experience with features such as voice communication, cloud file storage, leagues and ladders, achievements and more.
“GameStop had more than 3,000 stores open at midnight, so our StarCraft players got a jump start on playing the epic experience Blizzard consistently delivers with its games. StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is officially GameStop’s fastest-selling PC game since Blizzard launched World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King in 2008,” explained Bob McKenzie, Senior Vice President of Merchandising at GameStop.
The new chapter from the StarCraft saga traces the journey of Jim Raynor who along with preceding and fresh characters, enter the domain occupied by Terrans. As gamers initiate the expedition, they uncover a new experience by selecting their mission path and technology and research updates. Players must triumph in their 29-mission campaign while they can also indulge in various challenge-mode mini-games.
The standard edition of StarCraftII: Wings of Liberty can be purchased either in a DVD-ROM format from retail stores or downloaded from StarCraft 2’s official website for a suggested price of $59.99. The Special Collector’s Edition package involving bonus items can also be procured for a price of $99.99.
