Call of Duty 8

Activision has officially confirmed Call of Duty 8 to be in production. It was originally rumored to be either developed by Treyarch or Sledgehammer Games. Treyarch, however, was revealed to be developing Call of Duty: Black Ops and Sledgehammer Games was a subsidary of Activision with no games released. Activision later revealed Sledgehammer Games to be developing Call of Duty 8. Sledgehammer has been described to be driving the video game series into new territory, stating,"extend the franchise into the action-adventure genre." Job postings on the website Gamustra have stated that the game will be an FPS game, stating,"Sledgehammer Games is actively recruiting top industry talent to join the Call of Duty FPS development team."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was confirmed to be in pre-production when Activision filed a counter suit against former Infinity Ward employees on August 17, 2009. On April 27, 2010 the game was also mentioned in a suit against Activision for forcing Infinity Ward to complete the game and for unpaid royalties. According to GameSpot in a video news update released on May 8th, 2010, while they have lost important high-staffed employees including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 project director Jason West and assistant Vince Zampella, Infinity Ward will remain open for their next "big project," which people speculate could be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

As for the games being discussed, I would love to see the MW games continue. If MW3 has dedicated servers and is made primarily for PC and not for console noobs, then it will be epic, no doubt. As for BlackOps, that game will be a POS just like WaW. They can't keep putting out "old tech" games in old genres, out dated, and played-out (ie. WW2, Vietnam, etc.). The Cold War? Are you serious. Absolutely ridiculous idea. The developer who suggested that era should be fired. CoD4 proved that the FPS gaming industry wants Modern tech. MW2 developers sold their gaming soles to the console demons, and in doing so alienated real gamers who use computers. MoH will dominate CoD7. The developers of MoH2010 learned what to do from CoD4, and they learned from CoD6 what not to do.

I agree. Ever since they skipped COD 3 for the PC and went straight to console, the series has never been the same. I liked MW, but a lack of dedicated servers for MW2 along with the retarded single player story line really turned my stomach for the series. Which I thought was one of the best FPS series ever because of the historical accuracy of both story and weapons. Indeed the programmers for COD sold their soles to the console devil and pretty much doomed this series to the bowels of FPS arcade/console hell  .

Not sure if you have seen this yet, but it sounds like MW3 may not be a legal game for a little while.
Quote:
An amended complaint filed on Thursday by the Infinity Ward Employee Group has offered up new, alleged details from the ongoing legal battle between the studio and publisher Activision.

Before and after Activision fired studio heads Jason West and Vince Zampella in March, the complaint alleges Activision forced the Infinity Ward employees to "submit to secret interrogations" and that the publisher created a "police state" - like atmosphere and "hostile work environment" at the studio.

In a later meeting with the studio's employees, CEO Bobby Kotick also allegedly promised the group they would be paid their bonuses from Modern Warfare 2 in full. Kotick said "nothing will change" regarding bonus compensation, according to the complaint. But that apparently did not go as planned.

The complaint notes that "despite Bobby Kotick's oral statements to the employees of Infinity Ward to the contrary, Activision made a tactical and calculated decision to withhold $54 million of earned and vested bonus compensation from the Infinity Ward employees."

"At the same time, Activision breached its prior written promise that Modern Warfare 3 would not be the next game to be developed, produced, and delivered by Infinity Ward."

Later in March, Infinity Ward employees began to complain to Activision management about not receiving their bonuses. In an April meeting with Activision COO Thomas Tippl, he allegedly told the employees who kept demanding the bonuses to be paid to "get over it."

The complaint also alleges the reason Activision withheld the remaining $54 million owed was because they were afraid that employees would leave the studio and that Activision "would not be able to get Modern Warfare 3 to market by November 2011."

The Infinity Ward Employee Group notes they would not have left the studio had Activision, among other things, not fired Jason West and Vince Zampella, been paid their bonuses in full, and had been told the truth about the next game the studio was to develop after Modern Warfare 2.

As we reported yesterday, a trial date for both the lawsuits from Infinity Ward founders Jason West and Vince Zampella, and the Infinity Ward Employee Group against Activision has been set for May 23, 2011.
