MW2 Utter Domination

Hey guys, I like to get stuff like this written down to see what others think of the topic and add ideas they have to make for better play and more wins. I know we don't focus on Domination (yet, if at all), but here are a few mental notes:

For those who don't know, Domination is a game-type in MW2 where there are three stationary flags spread evenly around the map and each team fights to capture and keep the flags to gain points. A team gets 1 point every three seconds for every flag captured. The first team to 200 points wins the match.

A lot of times you'll end up on a pub or pug team that uses little to no teamwork and spreads themselves thin by trying to capture ALL of the flags. This strategy is ok if you are playing a team that doesn't understand the game but if you go up against a team that know the basic strategies in a match you will end up dying a lot and ultimately losing.

The best strategy is to capture and hold two flags and let the enemy team hold the third flag. This also forces them to spawn at their flag making it easy to dominate them if you use even a little teamwork. Once you capture that third flag the enemy starts to spawn all over the map creating a bad situation for your team. LEAVE THE THIRD FLAG ALONE.

It can be very difficult to stick with this strategy when playing with randoms so I recommend going in with a full team.

A few other tips:

1) The more people on a flag-point, the faster you capture it. This is important in the beginning when you get your first flag because you want to get the first point on the board. Care needs to be taken later in the match as one well placed grenade will take all of you out.

2) Points are given to everyone who helps capture a flag (unlike HQ and CTF) so be sure to jump on a flag at the last second to get your points.

3) If you are dominating a team you can squeeze extra points out of them by letting them gain a small amount of momentum. Sometimes I'll let a single enemy cap a flag-point and then kill him just as he gets the capture. Then I'll take the flag back. You can easily net 500 points by doing this. If the score is tied DON'T DO THIS. If there are more than one enemy in the area DON'T DO THIS.

4) Split up into two fire-teams before the match. Each squad is responsible for one flag-point. The fire-team at the spawn flag usually doesn't have to be as big as the other. Each fire-team needs to focus on their flag and stay patient. Don't go out looking for kills until to have a huge lead. Let the enemy come to you and waist them when they are running towards you. An enemy that is sprinting cannot shoot at you until they stop, giving you a tactical advantage.

Sorry this was so long but I want you guys to be able you win every single match, pub, or pug. I know most of you know all of this stuff so add more tips so we can dominate this and other game modes.

Also, capture flags A and B or C and B (B is the middle flag in almost all cases I think.) It is not a good idea to hold two flags on opposite sides of the map because the enemy will spawn in the middle, and it's hard to get to you other flag to defend it quickly.

Additionally, when the game begins, one fire-team should run and get the middle flag-point while the rest of the team caps the first one. This should get your team an early start and allow them to get set up around the flag in defending positions before the enemy team can even capture their "base flag."

I played a lot of Domination in COD4 with some really skilled Rangers, and the strategy we used was we'd run in two fire-teams of three and split up, Once at the flag two Rangers would attempt the flag-point cap while the other hid safely away from grenade range and kept watch. If the two capturers died the third would wait in the wings to pick off the enemy team who attempted to capture, or if the capture was close he could run in a cap it for the quick points after respawn the two imediately but tactically made their way back to that flag-point. Capturing B is essential because it keeps your team close regardless of which end flag-point your team has secured and you can get to either flag quickly. It also pins the enemy team into a corner which is a great way to break their spirit. I've seen entire teams quit because they couldn't walk ten steps without being picked off by our Rangers.

Each fire-team knew their assignment. Team 1 went to A and 2 to B. Once our Flag was capped we didn't go wandering around the map aimlessly playing TDM; we found a spot and defend it. This plan wasn't fool proof but it did net us a fair share of wins.
